Moodle: Badges

GROK Overview Banner

Badges are an online method of showing that a person has achieved a personal or educational goal, or of marking their progress along the way. They may be endorsed by an official body in that area, or simply represent encouragement by a teacher.

  • Badges can be based upon specific accomplishments, or just be awarded by a user or users with particular roles in a course, such as the primary instructor or TA.
  • Badges may be distributed by an external organization, such as Badgr, site wide, or just in a particular course.
  • While badges may be useful for resume-building, they should not be considered an authorized certification by LSU or other standardization or accrediting organizations.
  • Badges may be created by instructors, Moodle site administrators, or external badging organizations such as Badgr (if allowed by the site administrators).
