Moodle: Activities & Resources: External Tools: VHLCentral

To Add the VHLCentral Activity:

The VHL course should be created prior to adding the VHLCentral external tool to the Moodle course.

1. Follow the steps in Activities & Resources: Add an External Tool and select VHL Central from the Preconfigured tool drop-down list.
    
2. Enter VHL Central as the Activity name. No action is needed in the Privacy section. The site level's Privacy section's "Accept grades from the tool" has been unchecked as VHL does not use this method for grade sync.
    
3. Click Save and display. Click the open in new window link.
    
4. You will be prompted to login to your VHL account.
    
5. Next, on the Course Connector page select the VHL course section to link to this Moodle course.
   
   Important Tip: Only one VHL course section can be connected to a single Moodle course. If you are teaching multiple sections combined in Moodle, those sections must also be combined in the VHL course. Otherwise, the Moodle course will need to be split into individual sections before configuring the VHL LTI connection for each section.
    
6. Once the VHL course section and Moodle course are successfully linked you can click to Set up Grade Sync to adjust the settings so that grades appear in the Moodle gradebook. 
   • On the LMS Sync menu click Edit Settings to enable sync status and set what columns to see in the Moodle gradebook. Most instructors use a cumulative or category rollup.
   • Note: Moodle gradebook will not show VHL grade columns until a graded item's due date has passed.
   • Tip: It is not recommended to select "Lesson" as the column to sync as it can become overwhelming in the Moodle gradebook.
      
7. Once connected, students will be able to access VHL assignments directly through Moodle, and grades will sync automatically to the Moodle gradebook.
    

To Deep Link VHL Central Content:

1. Follow the steps in Activities & Resources: Add an External Tool and select VHL Central from the Preconfigured tool drop-down list.
    
2. Click the Select content button.
    
3. From the popup window select from the four options:
   • LINK TO CURRENT ASSIGNMENTS - links to the student dashboard.
   • LINK TO A SPECIFIC ACTIVITY
   • LINK TO A SPECIFIC ASSESSMENT
   • LINK TO VHL CENTRAL HOME
      
4. Once your selection is made, you will return to the "Adding a new External tool"  page and the Activity name field will be automatically filled.
    
5. Click Save and return to course.
    
6. Repeat as needed if linking to a specific activity or assessment.
