Moodle: Forum Posts Display Period

Description

The display period advanced forum setting allows instructors to set a display period of a date and time for a forum post to appear, before and after which the post is not visible to students.

Usage, Best Practices, and Considerations

Consider the following for display period usage:

  • Pre-schedule announcements for the term.
  • Make temporary posts to inform students when an instructor is less available, for example is attending a conference.
  • Display end cannot have a user override so it is not recommended to use this to enforce timed responses.
  • This functionality is not available for replies or the single simple discussion forum type.

To Add a Display Period to a Forum Post:

  1. Click on the forum you are contributing to.

  2. Click on the Add a new topic button. Fill in the Subject and Message fields.

  3. Then click Advanced.

View of Timed Post for Instructors and Students

Instructors will see a label under posts that have a display period set and posts that are not within their display period time will be in red. To see the start or end dates the instructor will need to open and edit the post.

Students  do not see the timed label or any posts outside of their display period.
