Moodle: Activities & Resources: External Tools: Access Pearson

The Access Pearson activity is a publisher tool which allows instructors to link Pearson course content (MyLab, Mastering, Revel, eText, or Live Response) to Moodle courses. The Access Pearson external tool enables deep linking, which means that students can directly access activities and resources through the Moodle site. Deep linking also allows for gradebook synchronization, allowing instructors to manually trigger or set automatic synchronization at regular intervals (every 15 minutes).

A note about support: Because the external tool activity links your Moodle course to an external website, most issues encountered in this tool should be troubleshooted through Pearson customer support or the specific Pearson customer representative who helped set up the course. The LSU Faculty Technology Center can assist with any Moodle issues and can work with the tool's support team on Moodle-related gradebook sync concerns.

To Add the Access Pearson Activity:

  1. Follow the steps in Activities & Resources: Add an External Tool and select Access Pearson from the Preconfigured tool drop-down list.

  2. Give the first Access Pearson External tool an Activity name, then Save and return to course. DO NOT select the 'Select content' option at this stage.

  3. Select the new Access Pearson activity and follow the instructions provided by your Pearson rep to set up your Pearson course. Note: If setting up assignments in Pearson Mastering, do not set any assignments to zero. This will break your Moodle gradebook. In step 3: Organization set the assignment to practice or extra credit. Or in your Moodle gradebook change the weight to zero for this assignment.

  4. After setting up your Pearson course, repeat the steps to Add an External Tool. This time, choose the Select content option. Select all course tools, assignments, and eText links that you would like added to this location of your course.

Note: Graded Pearson activities will appear as manual entries in the Moodle gradebook after the first attempt. Gradebook synchronization can take up to 15 minutes.
