Moodle: Course Tools: Adding a Block

This article provides the steps on how to add a block to a course page or the Moodle home page.

 

Add a Block to the Home page:

  1. Click Edit at the top left of the home page.

  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page (or press End on your keyboard).
     
  3. Within the Add a block block, click the dropdown and select the block you wish to add.

  4. Move the block to your desired section by clicking and dragging the plus arrow icon at the top right corner of the block.

  5. Once you are finished editing the Home screen, click Stop Editing at the top left. Your Home page has now been saved.

Add a Block to a Course:

  1. Log into Moodle and select the desired course.
     
  2. Select Course Tools from the CONTENTS panel.

  3. Click the Edit Blocks button under the Course Tools section.

  4. Scroll down to the bottom right of the page and click the drop-down menu next to Add... and select the desired block from the drop-down menu.

  5. The Course Tools page will refresh and the block should appear. Blocks have various functions see Moodle: Common Course Blocks for details on LSU block options.
     
  6. You must click on Stop Editing at the top of the Course Tools blocks section to save added blocks and before attempting to return to your main course page.

    NOTE: You will not be able to return to your course page until you select the Stop Editing button.
