Wireless at LSU: Connecting to the Secure Wireless Network at LSU

There may be broken links in this article, the GROK staff has been notified and is working to resolve the issue.

The LSUSecure wireless network is available to all LSU students, faculty, and staff. It provides all the conveniences of a regular wired connection without the need for cables. As a shared resource, wireless networking is intended primarily to supplement the campus wired infrastructure, not to replace it.

If you are unable to connect or need assistance, please contact the Help Desk at 225.578.3375. Personal assistance is also available at Middleton Library Information Commons Help Desk and Frey Computing Services Center Help Desk. If you are a guest, follow this link for more information:

Additional Information

Configuration of secure wireless settings varies depending on the operating system and the type of wireless adapter. In Windows XP, for instance, you can use Windows to configure your wireless settings, or you can make use of the configuration utility provided with your wireless adapter, as long as this utility has all the requirements to connect to the LSU network.

Below we provide the information necessary to configure your device to connect to the LSU wireless network. Since we cannot cover every instance, the necessary information you may need to connect to the LSU wireless network is shown below:

BASIC SETTINGS SUPPORTED PLATFORMS SUPPORTED ADAPTERS
ESSID (Network Name): lsusecure
Network Type: Infrastructure (or Access Point)
TCP/IP: DHCP
EAP Type: PEAP
Network Authentication: WPAWPA2
Data Encryption: TKIP/AES
Authentication Method/Protocol: MSCHAP-V2
Inner EAP Type: EAP-MSCHAPv2

Windows
Pocket PC 2003
Palm TX with ESU
Mac OS X 10.3 & above
Linux (limited support)
iOS (iPhone, iPad)
Your wireless adapter must have support for WPA and must be WiFi certified. See the FAQs article for a list of recommended wireless adapters. WPA comes in two flavors: WPA-Personal and WPA-Enterprise. It is important to make this distinction as the LSU wireless network will only support the Enterprise mode.

Note: Wii/Xbox/PlayStation are not supported.
