Wireless: Printing from a laptop in an LSU Public Access computer lab (Macintosh)
|
|
|
|
This article shows you the step-by-step process of how to send a print job from your Mac laptop to one of the LSU Public Access computer lab print servers.
Anyone with a valid PAWS account and a TigerCard now has the ability to print out documents remotely from their laptop in any of the LSU Public Access computer labs. Once you connect to a printer and submit your print job, all you have to do is use your TigerCard to release and pay for the job at the PHAROS pay-station located in the lab where your print job was submitted.

How to print from your Mac laptop in a public access computer lab
1) First, you must download the Printing.dmg file. Be sure you know where the file will be saved - the Desktop is a good place to save the file for accessibility.
2) Now that you have the disk image on your desktop, you may have to double-click it to mount it. You should now have a new drive named Printing next to your main drive in the Finder; if no new Finder window launches, and if you don't have a new Printing icon on your Desktop, choose File and then New Finder Window, and navigate to the Computer view by choosing Go and then Computer.

3) In the Printing window, there should be two files: the campus printing application and a small (but important) text file. Don't worry if the icon looks a little different.

4) Double-click on the Campus Printing application. When the application starts up, press the Add printers button to start adding campus printers to your printer list. The application will churn for a bit, and you may see the multicolored beachball, but after about thirty seconds to a minute, the program should finish up.

5) At this point, you can quit the Campus Printing program by pressing Cmd+Q, eject the virtual disk, and throw the Printing.dmg file in the Trash.
6) To print to a campus printer from any program, just choose File and then Print from the program's menu, and choose the printer you'd like from the list provided. You can then pay for your print job at the paystation associated with that printer.

Please report any issues to the help desk by emailing helpdesk@lsu.edu or calling 578-3375 with the queue name, your OS X version number (which you can find under Apple Menu then About This Mac), the program you were using at the time, and any other relevant details.
