SNAP: Blocks: Configure Block Settings


Each block added to a Moodle course page has a Configure menu. This allows instructors to customize the block to their specifications. While some of the settings are specific to each block, each block includes the following sections:

  • Where the block appears section (global course page settings)
  • On this page section (individual course page settings)

 

 To Access the Configure Menu:

1. Log in to Moodle and click on the course.

2. Look below the left menu and click on Course Tools.

3. Click on the Edit blocks button on the Course Tools page.

4. Locate the block you wish to customize and click on the gear icon (Actions). Select the Configure block option from the dropdown menu.

5. Customize the settings.

Where This Block Appears: 
  • Original Block Location - the original location where the block was created. 

  • Default Region - defines which region the block will appear in by default.

    • Footer (Left)
    • Footer (Middle)
    • Footer (Right)
    • Left
    • Hidden from users
    • Page top
    • Right
    • Content
  • Default Weight - allows the administrator to choose roughly where the block will appear in the chosen region.

 

On This Page: (block settings for specific page themes)
  • Visible - enables or disables the visibility of the block. 
  • Region - defines which region the block will appear.
  • Weight - allows the administrator to choose roughly where the block will appear in the chosen region.

6. You must click on Stop Editing at the top of the course before attempting to return to your main course page.
