Completing a Deployment Plan for a Change Request

Deployment plans are required for all change requests. These plans help to deconflict multiple changes in a release package, as well as let CAB members and other users know how a change is being deployed into a production environment. A deployment plan template can be downloaded from here: https://sites01.lsu.edu/lsu/changemanagement/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Change-Deployment-Plan.xlsx. The deployment plan should list the steps that are needed to complete the planned change. Each step should contain the following information:

1. CHANGE # DEPLOYMENT PLAN: the title should be changed to include the Change Request number from Cherwell. (e.g.. – CHANGE #1102 Deployment Plan)

2. Functional Module: this is the module/system/item being worked on for the step in the deployment plan (e.g.. – Integration).

3. Activities: this field is used to explain what is happening to the functional module for the step in the deployment plan. (e.g.. – Deploy the new integration into sandbox)

4. Owner Dept: this field is used to list the step owner’s department. (e.g.. – PA-Integrations).

5. Owner: this field lists the employee who is working the step in the deployment plan.

6. Source Instance: this field may not apply to all deployment plans, and is used to list the source instance of the item being moved to production. (e.g.. – a test system, in this case LSU 10)

7. Target Instance: this field may not apply to all deployment plans, and is used to list the target instance of the item being moved to production. (e.g.. – the production system, in this case Sandbox)

8. Pitfalls/Potential Issues: this field is used to list any potential issues that the step may have.

9. Start Date/Time: this field is used to list the proposed start time for the step.

10. End Date/Time: this field is used to list the proposed end time for the step.

11. Duration (estimate mins): this field contains the estimated time in minutes the step should take to complete.

 

Once the deployment plan is complete, it should be attached to the Change Request by:

1. Click on the paper clip icon:

2. Click on Attach a file (import)...:

3. Browse to the created deployment plan, select it and then click Open to attach the file to the request.

4. The selected file is now attached to the request (this view will vary from the web client and the desktop client):
