Creating a New Configuration Item in Cherwell

Configuration Items (CIs) are single items contained in the Configuration Management Database. These items can be linked together to create a dependency map showing how changes can effect systems, services, or other CIs. The following steps are used to create a CI in Cherwell:

1. In the Main Menu, click New > New Configuration Item and select the type of configuration item to created.

2. Enter the configuration item’s details in the form. Each type of Configuration Item will have its own set of relevant form fields. Select an owner/team, and fill in the required field Friendly Name. Please provide as much information as possible and/or necessary when completing other fields. When finished, click the Save icon at the top left.

3. Next, click the Next: Order link (in the grey Status box under New):

4. Then, click the Next: Mark as In Stock link in the same location:

5. Then, click the Next: Planned link in the same location:

6. Then, click the Next: Activate link in the same location:

7. The Configuration Item should now be at the Active status:

8. Click the Home button to return to the main screen:
