Moodle 3: Activities & Resources: Quiz Question Behavior Settings

Quiz Question Behavior Settings

Instructors can customize the Question behavior for a quiz. If Shuffle within questions is selected as 'Yes', then the answer options (a, b, c, d) will be shuffled for each student. Keep in mind that if one of the options is 'All of the above,' it could appear as option A for some students.

Students can interact with the questions in the quiz in various different ways. For example, you may want the students to enter an answer to each question and then submit the entire quiz, before anything is graded or they get any feedback. That would be 'Deferred feedback' mode.

Alternatively, you may wish for students to submit each question as they go along to get immediate feedback, and if they do not get it right immediately, have another try for fewer points. That would be 'Interactive with multiple tries' mode.

Those are probably the two most commonly used modes of behavior.

If you allow multiple attempts of a quiz and “Interactive with multiple tries” is selected, selecting Yes for “Each attempt builds on the last” will preserve the student’s answers from previous attempts except for typed responses. Essay and short answer responses will not be saved.

*Note: To keep students from seeing the correct answers between attempts, do not select “Right answer” in the “Review options” section.
