Moodle 3: Blocks: Create a Post in Announcements Forum

The Latest News block automatically adds an Announcements forum to the top of the course page. This is a special forum for general announcements. Only primary instructors, non-primary instructors, and teaching assistants (TAs) can post in the Announcements forum. Students cannot post items to the Announcements forum or reply to posts. By default, all course participants are subscribed to Announcements and will receive an email when a post is made. Any post will also appear in the Latest News block.

NOTE: You MUST Add the Latest News block before adding a new topic/post.

Important Note: You must delete the Latest News block BEFORE trying to delete the Announcements forum.

There are 2 ways to add new posts to the forum:

To Add a New Topic/Post to Latest News block:

1. Log in to Moodle and click on the desired course.

2. Click Add a new topic... in the Latest News section on the right-hand side.

3. Add your subject and message. When finished, click Post to Forum.

To Add a New Topic/Post to Announcements Forum:

1. Log in to Moodle and click on the desired course.

2. Click Announcements at the top of the page.

3. Click the Add a new topic button at the top of the page to post a new discussion topic.

4. Enter a Subject and a Message. Adding an attachment is optional.

5. Once you are finished editing, click on Post to forum to save. This will send a notification to your students and add an entry to the Latest News block.
