About the Online Teaching Cohort

Mission & Purpose:

The Faculty Technology Center, LSU Online, and the Learning and Teaching Collaborative formed an Online Teaching Cohort in which cohort members explore important topics in teaching and learning in the online environment (including blended courses). Participants share ideas, experiences, concerns, challenges, and ask questions or seek advice and assistance amongst a group of peers. The primary purpose of this cohort is to create an environment to engage the LSU campus community and peer institutions in discussions and activities in which members can share and learn online teaching strategies and practices to enhance their courses.

How it Works:

Each meeting is centered around a specific topic or focus decided by cohort members, and is facilitated by a member from the Faculty Technology Center and/or LSU Online. Meetings can include presentations by guest speakers, demonstrations, or hands-on activities. A variety of potential topics include assessment, student engagement strategies, providing feedback, creating videos, etc. Agendas will be shared with members prior to each meeting.

Benefits of Joining:

  • Receive help from others to solve your current online teaching challenges.
  • Discuss strategies to effectively manage blended and online courses.
  • Develop interdisciplinary collaborations/ relationships with colleagues across campus and peer institutions.
  • Enhance teaching skills to increase student success and retention.
  • Provide a community of support amongst peers.

Who Should Join:

This cohort is open to anyone who is interested in online teaching including faculty, staff, and graduate teaching assistants. The cohort currently consists of over 140 members including peers from Baton Rouge Community College, Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University (formally known as Our Lady of the Lake College), LSU Eunice, LSU Alexandria, LSU Shreveport, and Southern University.
