Installation Tips 

When to use a USB Drive to install Windows 7?

  • If you have a laptop without a DVD drive.
  • If you want to run a quicker installation.  Windows 7 will install faster using a USB drive as opposed to using a DVD.

Getting Started

1. Install the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool, this is made available by Microsoft.

  • NOTE: To complete these installation instructions, you MUST be an Administrator on your computer.

2. Click Start | Programs | Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool.

3. Click Browse to choose the location of the Windows 7 .iso file.

4. Click Next.

5. Click USB device for the media type which you will use to install Windows 7.

6. Insert the USB device & click Begin copying.

  • Note:  Installing Windows 7 will Erase ALL Other Files OFF the USB Drive.

7. Step 4 of 4 will begin creating the bootable USB device.

8. Once the USB device has finished being created, restart the computer.

9. During the restart, press a key choose to boot from the one-time boot menu.

  • This is usually the keystroke:  [hotkey + F11] or  [F12]

10. Choose to Boot from the USB Device.
