Domain Name Service (DNS)

DNS is the friendly name for internet address (IP) resolution services for the entire campus. We administer lsu.edu along with non-lsu.edu domains per request and approval. Management of the lsu.edu domain is delegated to individual departments on campus via an online application (BlueCat). We also provide secondary DNS service to other universities per request and approval.

Eligibility

Any user on the LSU network will be provided a valid IP address and hostname based on the function of the device. You must be in the LSU Technical Support Professionals (TSP) list to access IPControl.

Ordering & Request Procedures Forms or Links

For LSU affiliated users, the network contact for the department is responsible for handling IP requests via BlueCat IPControl (http://lsu-bam.lsu.edu). If you have problems with this service, submit a request to the Service Desk.

Non-LSU users should request this service via the Service Desk.

Delivery Timeline or Response Time

BlueCat requests are handled immediately. All other requests will be handled case by case with immediate response available for situations deemed to be an emergency for either the campus, department, or university.
