PAWS Account Eligibility and Retention
Undergraduate Students
- PAWS accounts are automatically created when a prospective student has applied for admission through the undergraduate admissions online application and has paid the application fee.
- Student PAWS IDs are computer-generated; therefore, a student cannot request a specific ID. This process insures that new PAWS IDs are unique and are never reused.
- The account information is e-mailed to the e-mail address that was provided by the prospective student on the admissions application. The accounts are usually created within one business day after the application fee has been paid. The computer-generated e-mail with the account information may take an additional day to process.
- A student “may access and use LSU computing resources until they graduate or are not enrolled for two consecutive semesters (not including Summer). A student’s access to the account will be disabled after one inactive semester, and archived after the last enrollment period of the second semester for which the student is not enrolled. Enrollment is determined using University records.” Computer Users’ Responsibilities (PS-107)

Active Faculty/Staff
NOTE: ITS does not create PAWS accounts for new Faculty/Staff. This is completed by HRM and/or the new users HR Contact using the QuickStart program within PAWS.
- Active faculty and staff may request a PAWS account at Human Resource Management New Employee Orientation, at the ITS Help Desk in Frey Computing Services, at the ITS Help Desk in Middleton, or by speaking with an ITS Help Desk analyst via telephone.
- If a faculty or staff member’s employment status is not Active or New Hire, he or she must provide a Personnel Action Form (PAF) to verify employment with the University before an account can be created.
- Faculty and staff members may request a specific login ID for PAWS, which will also be their LSU e-mail address. The requested login ID must be unique to the system before being created. This insures that new PAWS IDs are unique and are never reused.
- “Faculty and staff may access and use LSU computing resources until the termination of their affiliation with the University. Renewal is automatic and is based on University records. User(s) whose status as a student or employee has been terminated by the University are no longer authorized to utilize computing resources, even if their access has not been blocked by technology services.” Computer Users’ Responsibilities (PS-107)
Retired Faculty/Staff
- “Retired faculty and staff may be provided access and use LSU computing resources, in the sole discretion of the University, as long as there are resources available to support their continued use. However, the University may limit, withdraw, or deny access to retired members of its faculty and staff in its sole discretion. Renewal is automatic and is based on continued active account use and University records. If a resource supporting ‘active’ users becomes constrained and the number of accounts belonging to retired members must be reduced, account use and longevity will be used as the criteria for removing accounts as necessary to recover appropriate resources.” Computer Users’ Responsibilities (PS-107)
Alumni
- “Alumni of Louisiana State University are NOT eligible to use computing resources unless eligible under another category.” Computer Users’ Responsibilities (PS-107)
Guests
- “The University, in its sole discretion, may provide limited access to computing resources for specialized purposes, such as conference attendees, external entities under contract to Louisiana State University, or visitors. A sponsor must be identified on any computer account provided for this purpose, and the sponsor must be a Dean, Department Head, or Director.” Computer Users’ Responsibilities (PS-107)
