NOTE: Before starting the setup process, close any open instances of Outlook, otherwise, you cannot configure the new Microsoft Exchange Server account.
To create an Outlook profile to access Exchange from off campus, click
HERE.
To create an IMAP profile to access your Exchange Server account in Outlook, click
HERE.
1. Open the Control Panel (For help accessing the Control Panel, click
HERE). Depending on your configuration, you must now perform one of two possible steps:
1a. If you are using the
Category View, select
User Accounts.
1b. Select
Mail. This opens the
Mail Setup – Outlook window.
1c. If you are using the
Classic View, select
Mail. This opens the
Mail Setup – Outlook window.
NOTE: If you do not find a Mail icon in your Control Panel, you need to open Outlook. This will put you in the Add Account wizard in step 3 below.
Go to step 3 and continue the setup process.
2. You should now see a
Mail Setup - Outlook window.
IMPORTANT: You must create a new profile to create an exchange account. If you attempt to create an Exchange account in your existing profile, new messages will not be processed correctly.
To create a new profile:
2a. In the
Mail Setup - Outlook window, click
Show Profiles.

2b. Click
Add.
2c. Give your new profie a name (i.e. Exchange) and click
OK.
2d. The
E-mail Accounts Wizard should open. But, if for any reason it does not, select the option for
E-mail Accounts, then click
Next.
3. The
E-mail Accounts Wizard is now open. Select the option
Add a new e-mail account, then click
Next.
4. Select
Microsoft Exchange Server,
then click
Next.

5. At this point, you are prompted to enter your Exchange server settings.
- In the blank labeled
Microsoft Exchange Server, type "exchange.lsu.edu"
(if this does not work, please contact the LSU Computing Services Help Desk for assistance with setting up your Exchange e-mail account).
- As a
User Name, enter your Paws ID. Click
Check Name so that Exchange can locate your user information on the main server.
- Be sure the option labeled
Use Cached Exchange Mode is selected. Click
Next.
6. An Outlook dialog box concerning the default delivery location will open. Make sure that the configuration is set to "Mailbox - (Your LSU ID)" instead of Personal Folders, as having your e-mail sent to Personal Folders will pull the messages off of the Exchange Server and store them locally. Click
Finish to continue.
7. Click
Finish to complete the
E-mail Accounts Wizard.
8. Open
Outlook 2003 and click
Mail in the navigation pane. Make sure your account appears in the mail folders list.
9. If you have multiple Outlook profiles, consider setting the one with your Exchange account to be the default. To do this:
9a. Go back to the
Control Panel.
9b. Either go to
User Accounts>>Mail or click
Mail, depending on your configuration.
9c. Click
Show Profiles to open the Mail dialog box.
9d. In the dropdown menu at the bottom of the dialog box, select your Exchange profile and choose the
Always Use This Profile option. Doing so will automatically load your Exchange profile when Outlook is opened.
Click
OK to save your changes.
