This article describes some problems users may encounter when trying to log on to PAWS via Internet Explorer, and offers possible solutions to those problems.

Note: For information on obtaining a PAWS account, read this article: PAWS Account Eligibility and Retention.

PAWS Logon box goes blank after user enters user name and password:

1. Check your Internet Settings by going to Tools and clicking Internet Options.

2. On the Privacy tab, make sure that your cookie level is set no higher than Medium.

3. On the Advanced tab, make sure that the boxes next to Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0 are checked, and that the box next to Use TLS 1.0 is not checked.

4. Select the Connections tab, click LAN Settings and make sure the box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN is not checked.

If Cookies or JavaScript are not allowed using FireFox:

1. Click on Tools and select Options.

2. Select the Content tab.

3. Click Enable Javascript.

4. Select Accept cookies from sites.


If cookies or JavaScript are decline using Internet Explorer:

1. Click Tools then Internet Options.

2. Select the Privacy tab.

3. Click Accept under first-party cookies.

4. Select the Security tab.

5. Click Custom Level.

6. Ensure that Active Scripting is enabled.

"Invalid User Name or Password" message is shown:

1. The user name or password could be incorrect. Re-type and enter again.

2. Check to see whether Caps Lock has been activated or Number Lock has been deactivated.

3. The account may have been suspended or there may be another problem. Contact the ITS Help Desk.


"Page cannot be displayed" message is shown when user tries to enter PAWS.

1. Make sure your Internet connection isn't down by accessing other Web sites.

2. Access the logon site from the LSU homepage rather than a bookmark or favorite place.

3. Make sure you are not running a firewall that blocks you from accessing PAWS.
     Your connection could be down for other reasons, such as problems with the logon server.

"Action cancelled" message is displayed or screen freezes when user clicks the Log On to PAWS link:

1. Check your connection's cipher strength by clicking Help then About Internet Explorer.

2. The cipher strength must be 128 bit.

3. If it is not, you may need to download a newer version of Internet Explorer or, if you are using Windows 95, download a high encryption pack.

4. To download the most recent version of Internet Explorer, click the windows website.

5. To download the Windows high encryption pack, click windows download.

6. If you are still having problems, contact the ITS Help Desk.
