Office 2010: Enterprise License Activation Guide

General Information


Activation Method: Enterprise Version.

This article is a guide to help activate the license for Office 2010 & help troubleshoot common issues.  The process to activate the license for Office 2010 is different depending on the location of the computer.

 

License Activation


To Activate a Computer While ON-CAMPUS:

1. Run the ITS provided script which corrects known issues.

   a. Download the Office2010Activation.vbs script to your computer.

   b. Double-click the file to run it.

   c. Click Yes if it prompts you for administrator privileges.

2. Check to see if Office is now activated. Microsoft Office 2010: Activating from On-Campus.

3. STILL NOT ACTIVATING?

   a. Generate the Error Code. Office 2010: Manually Activating Against the KMS.

   b. If the results come back "<Product activation successful>", you are successfully activated.

   c. If the result is an error code, use the Error Code to find the Possible Solution below.
 

To Activate a Computer While OFF-CAMPUS:

(NOTE: Activation from Off-Campus requires a VPN connection. VPN at LSU: Overview.)

1. Connect to the LSU AnyConnect VPN.

2. Confirm that VPN is Successfully Connected.

3. Run the Script provided by ITS which corrects known issues.

a. Download the following script to your computer:  Office2010Activation.vbs

b. Double-click the file to run it.

c. Click Yes if it prompts you for administrator privileges.

4. Check to see if Office is Activated now:  Microsoft Office 2010: Activating from Off-Campus Using the VPN.

5. STILL NOT ACTIVATING?

a. Generate the Error Code. Office 2010: Manually Activating Against the KMS.

b. If the results come back "<Product activation successful>", you are successfully activated.

c. If the result is an Error Code, use the Error Code to find the Possible Solution below.

 

Error Codes & Possible Solutions


Error Code: 0x80070005

Possible Cause:

Administrative rights are required on the computer to troubleshoot activation.  

Possible Solution: 

1. Make that your account has administrative access to the machine and you opened the command line as an administrator by right clicking on the command line application and selecting run as administrator.

2. Try following the steps in Office 2010: Manually Activating Against the KMS as administrator to check if Office activates or you receive another error code.
 

Error Code: 0xC004F074

Possible Cause:

The computer's system time does not match the system time of the activation server.

Possible Solution:

1. Check to make sure that the time zone on your computer is set to Central Time.  To check to see if your time is set to the Central Time zone, refer to Windows 7: Checking your time zone.

2. Set to Central Time, refer to the following GROK article: Windows 7: Setting System Clock to Match KMS server.

3. Try activating Office again to check to see if Office will Activate or provide a New Error Code: Office 2010: Manually Activating Against the KMS.
 

Error Code: 0x8007232B

Possible Cause:

The computer cannot find the DNS entry for the KMS server.

Possible Solution:

   1.  Follow the steps in this GROK Article: Office 2010: Manually setting the KMS.

   2. Try activating Office again to check to see if Office will Activate or provide a New Error Code:? Office 2010: Manually Activating Against the KMS.
 

Error Code: 0xC004C001, 0xC004C003, 0xC004F014, 0xC004F050

Possible Cause:

The Key which Office is trying to use to activate is invalid.

Possible Solution:

   1. Manually set your KMS key by following this GROK Article:  Office 2010: MAK to KMS.

   2. Try activating Office again to check to see if Office will Activate or provide a New Error Code:  Office 2010: Manually Activating Against the KMS.
 

Error Code: 0x8007232A

Possible Cause:

The computer cannot communicate with the activation.  

Possible Solution:

   1. Manually set the KMS server entry by following this article: Office 2010: Manually setting the KMS.

   2. Verify your computer can connect to the Activation Server by following this GROK Article: Windows 7: Make sure a Windows Computer can communicate with the KMS Server.

   3. If your computer can communicate with the KMS server, try activating Office again to check to see if Office will Activate or provide a New Error Code: Office 2010: Manually Activating Against the KMS.
