All LSU students, faculty, and staff are eligible for a PAWS (Personal Web Services) account. PAWS provides a customized navigation screen and a list of services based on an individual’s association with the university. The desktop evolves with an individual’s changing relationship with LSU.
PAWS provides an e-mail address formatted as (PAWSusername)@lsu.edu. The email address maps to either a Tigermail email box, an LSU Exchange email box, or is forwarded to an email address. Users have a variety of mail clients with which they can access their e-mail messages from Tigermail or LSU Exchange. The mail service supports IMAP and POP3 standards used by popular mail clients such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Entourage, Eudora, Pine, and others.
Retention and Deletion of e-mail Accounts
PAWS e-mail accounts are valid for the duration of an individual’s active relationship with LSU. Depending on an individual's status with the university, a PAWS account may become a candidate for deletion.
Students: This type of account is purged after non-enrollment for two consecutive major (spring/fall) semesters.
Faculty/Staff who have resigned: Access to the e-mail portion of an account is disabled 30 days following separation from the university.
Faculty/Staff who have retired: The primary e-mail account is retained and renewable for 10 year increments.
NOTE: To be able to access financial and tax documents, PAWS access for former university employees will persist for the calendar year following the last year of employment.
Maximum Size of Personal Mailbox
Each primary LSU Exchange emailbox has 1GB of server side storage. Users requiring more mail storage space can utilize personal folders to archive additional mail to their desktops or departmental servers. Personal folders are available in Outlook. Messages in the folders can be easily copied, moved or replied to.
A warning message will be sent to a user when 90% of his or her mailbox storage limit is reached. If the mailbox has 1GB of mail, new messages cannot be sent. Once a mailbox reaches 1.1GB of mail, mail cannot be sent nor received, and any messages sent to the user’s mailbox will be rejected.
