VirtualBox: CD/DVD-ROM and Floppy Settings
  Add to Favorites     Share/Save/Bookmark

The Floppy and CD/DVD-ROM settings show what VirtualBox is providing to the guest operating system of the virtual machine. If the Mount checkbox is unchecked in either of these two categories, there will be no recognized media available to VirtualBox. If the Mount checkbox is checked, the Host Drive and Image File settings can be adjusted.

The Host Drive is the physical device of the host that is connected to the virtual machine. This allows for the guest operating systems to read and write to your physical device. Enable this option to install an operating system from an actual installation CD/DVD. Use of the host drive will only provide a read-only drive to the guest. The Image File displays a file on the host as a device to the guest OS. Users should import an image file into the Virtual Disk Manager in order to use an image file.

The format of floppy disks should be in raw format, while CD/DVD ROMs should be in ISO format. The ISO format would normally be selected when installing an operating system from an ISO file on the Internet. All of these settings can be altered when the guest operating system is running.
