Windows 7: Upgrading to Windows 7
  Add to Favorites     Share/Save/Bookmark

There are two ways to install Windows 7. We strongly recommend that you perform a backup of your data before you continue to upgrade or install Windows 7.

The first option is called a Clean Install. This must be done for an upgrade of Windows XP or Windows Vista Home to Windows 7. For more information on a clean install, please visit this GROK article: Windows 7: Installing Windows 7

The second option is called an Upgrade. You can only upgrade to Windows 7 if your current operating system is Windows Vista Enterprise or Windows Vista Business. To do this, follow the steps below:

NOTE: Currently, Windows 7 does not work with Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.4. You must uninstall this program before upgrading to Windows 7. Once you have upgraded to Windows 7, reinstall Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.5. You can obtain this program on TigerWare.

UPGRADE

1. Insert the Windows 7 installation DVD while your Windows Vista computer is running. It should automatically start up, and if so, click Run setup.exe. If not, open up My Computer, and double-click on the CD Drive.

2. You will probably have to give the program permission to continue. Click Continue.

3. When the Windows 7 installation window opens, click Install Now.

4. There's a chance the installation program may want you to get the latest updates before it continues. We recommend that you accept this process.

5. Once any upgrades are complete, and the installation window pops back up, accept the license terms by clicking the checkbox and select Next.
