Windows 7: Installing Windows 7

There are two ways to install Windows 7. We strongly recommend that you perform a backup of your data before you continue to upgrade or install Windows 7.
The first option is called a Clean Install. This must be done for an upgrade of Windows XP to Windows 7. When using this method, insert the Windows Vista installation DVD, boot your computer from CD, and follow the steps below:
The second option is called an Upgrade. You can only upgrade to Windows 7 if your current operating system is a Windows Vista system. For more information about upgrading to Windows 7, visit this GROK article: Windows 7: Upgrading to Windows 7
Clean Install
1. When the Install Windows window pops up, select the correct language, time, currency format, and input method, and click Next.

2. Click Install now.

3. Click the checkbox to accept the license terms and click Next.

4. Click Custom (advanced) which will install new a copy of Windows.

5. Select the disk that you would like to install Windows 7 on, and click Next.

6. Windows 7 will begin to install.

7. Now you will have the opportunity to set up Windows 7.

8. We recommend that you choose "Use recommended settings." Click Next.

9. You have now successfully installed Windows 7!
