Abbreviated CD-R. Using CD-R, you can write to the disc only once; after that, the disc can only be read from and not written to. From a functional point of view, a CD-R and a CD-ROM are identical; you can read CD-R discs using almost any CD-ROM drive, although the processes that create the discs are slightly different.
Low-cost CD-R drives are available from several manufacturers, including Kao, Kodak, Mitsui, Phillips, Ricoh, Sony, TDK, 3M, and Verbatim.
